Air Experience Flights
Air Experience Flights (AEF) are available so that you can try the sport - enjoy the thrill of motorless flight and find out what is involved in becoming a glider pilot.
You will receive a short briefing from the Flight Instructor before climbing into the cockpit of a tandem training glider. For Air Experience Flights we use the same gliders that would be used if you joined the club and commenced pilot training. All the controls and instruments are the same in both the front and rear cockpit - you will most likely sit in the front seat. There's nothing for you to do at this stage except listen to the briefing - the instructor will be doing all the flying initially. Once you have released from the launch, if you want to try the controls, the instructor will invite you to take the controls under his or her guidance.
The flight time is dependant on the weather conditions - for example, the presence of thermals will enable the glider to climb and extend the flight time. After flying around the local area and explaining how the glider flies and what the sport is all about, the instructor will join the circuit pattern and complete a landing. Without thermals the flight time may be less than 15 minutes- in this case you will be offered a second flight.
Air Experience Flights are normally available every Sunday, which is the club's routine flying day. An "AEF" will cost $70, this includes the necessary short-term membership of the Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA). The flying can be paid for on the day or you can purchase a pre-paid flight voucher by contacting the club from this web site, or by telephoning 0427 205624.
Groups of several people can arrange for a group booking on a Saturday or Public Holiday by contacting the club.
